Why Us?
Our Philosophy
Unwoke Psychotherapy was created to offer a different approach to therapy — one that is clear, practical, and focused on what actually helps.
Over time, psychotherapy has developed a reputation for being vague, overly focused on talking, or influenced by ideas that do not always lead to real change. For many people, this has made therapy feel frustrating, ineffective, or simply not worth the time.
Our aim is to move away from that.
We focus on evidence-based psychotherapy that helps you understand your patterns and make practical changes in your life. That means looking at what is actually maintaining the problem, not just where it came from, and working towards something different.
This is not just about removing empathy or understanding — those are clearly essential and fundamental. But therapy should not stop there.
The goal is to provide therapy that is grounded, structured, and focused on progress, so that your time, energy, and effort lead to meaningful change.

Meet the therapist - Michael Fok
Early in my career, I did what the modern therapy industry often encourages: I nodded, I affirmed, and I validated. And honestly? It worked—at least for getting clients to sign up. People like to be agreed with.
But over time, it stopped sitting right with me. I watched clients put their hope, time, and money into sessions, only to leave feeling temporarily comforted but entirely stuck in the same daily patterns. Endless validation might make for a comfortable hour, but it doesn't get you anywhere.

I decided I couldn't work that way anymore. I want to help the people who actually want help.
If you are looking for an echo chamber where someone just tells you what you want to hear, I am not the right counsellor for you. But if you are ready to be challenged, to face the hard stuff, and to actually get things done, we will work well together. I am straight with my clients. I offer a safe, completely non-judgmental space, but my ultimate goal is to equip you to move forward in the real world.
